about

I've felt a very welcome creative surge of energy as of late, which has driven me to start making plans and taking action toward building out my portfolio; discography, filmography, and potentially even more than that. That being the case, I recently revisited the musical work that I've made thus far, which is almost exclusively under this project, Azalea Four. There's a lot of fluff, a handful of downright bad music, and a surprisingly large handful of music that I'm still proud of to this day.

I'm not sure where my creative endeavors are going to take me in the near and distant future, but I thought I would release my first and final full-length record under the Azalea Four moniker as a promise to myself that it's possible to be good, it's possible to get better, and it's always worth it to keep creating things regardless.

This album, which is self-titled, is a pseudo-compilation record, containing reworked and revamped tracks from throughout my discography. There are also some tracks which are semi-new; As I was combing through my hard drive I found some forgotten, unused files, and some of those files weaseled their way into various moments throughout this record.

The tracks that make up this album consist of the moments throughout my discography, which in the broad sense spans from 2017-2022 (!), that I think represent most closely what I was seeking to express or was hoping to communicate through this project. Less obtusely, this album is just the songs that I still think are good / sound like what I was going for. Most of this work is sample-based, constructed entirely in Ableton using what I would assume is the absolute top of the iceberg regarding Ableton's capabilities. I play some instruments on it, and I sing a little bit, but it's mostly sounds I love that were warped and distorted until they felt right in their new form.

This'll most likely be the final release that I put out under the Azalea Four name. I'd like to pursue new things and challenge myself with the sounds I'm able to create and the methods by which I create them. I also quite honestly would like to also pursue new names; Azalea Four sprouted from a street name that I passed growing up, and the music that has stemmed from it expresses the ethos of that source material, but I've done so much since I saw that street sign. I've come into my own skin, learned so much about myself, and learned just how boundless my creative capacities truly can be should I commit myself fully to developing them. In this sense, this project functions as a promise to future myself, a testament to my effort, and proof that what I've made is something to be proud of.

All this being said, thank you for listening to my little ambient project, and thanks for reading this. We'll see what else I can manage to conjure up.
